Gardens are not made by singing ‘Oh, how beautiful,’
and sitting in the shade.

In the Pacific Northwest, including Seattle, the spring planting season offers a variety of options for gardeners. Here are some plants and flowers that are ideal for spring planting in this region:

  • Daffodils/Narcissus: These are associated with spring and represent good fortune. They are a popular choice for adding a splash of color to gardens.

  • Bee-Friendly Flowers & Plants: Planting species like lavender, basil, bee balm, cosmos, flax, geraniums, goldenrods, and dandelions can support local pollinators like bees.

  • Vegetables: For vegetable gardens, peas seeds should be planted before April, as they don't germinate well when temperatures rise above 75°F. Tomatoes should not be planted in April, and possibly not even in May, depending on the weather and elevation.

  • Native Plants: It's also beneficial to plant native species to the area, as they are already adapted to the local climate and support biodiversity.
